Faculty of Medicine, University of Sarajevo Is the First Host of the EU Project on Dementia \u201cADawarE.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

On 11 June 2026, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Sarajevo hosted an international symposium as part of the ADawarE project, dedicated to dementia, its prevention, and support for people living with dementia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Sarajevo, together with the project coordinator for Bosnia and Herzegovina prof.dr. Asiju Za\u010diragi\u0107<\/strong>, ina\u010de redovnu profesoricu na Medicinskom fakultetu UNSA, okupilo vode\u0107e stru\u010dnjake za demenciju. Eksperti iz Austrije, Gr\u010dke, Norve\u0161ke i Hrvatske govorili su o prevenciji, edukaciji i novim pristupima podr\u0161ci osobama s demencijom,<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lectures were held at the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Sarajevo, on which occasion the attendees were addressed by prof. dr. Stefanie Auer<\/strong> from the Danube University Krems (Austria), one of the leading European experts in dementia research and care, dr. Marianna Tsatali<\/strong> from the Greek Alzheimer\u2019s Association, Professor Ingelin Testad<\/strong> from the University of Exeter and the Centre for Ageing Medicine (SESAM) in Norway, as well as Anne Torsvik Henriksen<\/strong>, an expert in involving people with dementia in research and social life, Professor Ninoslav Mimica, <\/strong>one of the leading regional experts in Alzheimer\u2019s disease and psychogeriatrics and Sandra Kerovec, <\/strong>edukacijska rehabilitatorica koja promovi\u0161e kreativne i inkliuivne pristupe podr\u0161ci osobama s demencijom.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The lecture topics included raising awareness about dementia in European countries, preventive programs, non-pharmacological interventions<\/strong>, involving people with dementia in research and the community, and innovative models of communication about dementia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Dementia is one of the greatest public health challenges of today, and the project ADawarE<\/strong> aims to improve education, strengthen international cooperation, and develop new approaches that contribute to a better understanding of the needs of people living with dementia and their families.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The symposium was intended for students, specialists, and physicians of the University of Sarajevo, and by organizing this event, the Faculty of Medicine of the University of Sarajevo once again confirmed its active role in international scientific research projects and the promotion of modern healthcare policies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The ADawarE project is being implemented thanks to the engagement of the Dean prof. dr. Amine Valjevac<\/strong> and international expertise prof. dr. Asije Za\u010diragi\u0107<\/strong> iz oblasti demencije.<\/p>\n\n\n
