Symposium on Occupational Medicine and Workplace Safety Successfully Held in Sarajevo

The symposium “Occupational Medicine and Workplace Safety: Addressing Challenges Through Innovation for a Safer Future for Workers” was successfully held on September 26 and 27, 2025, at the “Academician Seid Huković” Amphitheatre, Faculty of Medicine, University of Sarajevo.

The two-day program brought together experts, academics, and practitioners from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region. The symposium was opened by Prof. Dr. Amina Valjevac, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine, with introductory remarks by Assistant Minister Goran Čerkez from the Federal Ministry of Health of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Participants attended lectures delivered by distinguished experts:

  • Prof. Dr. Petar Bulat, University of Belgrade – Faculty of Medicine, Republic of Serbia
  • Prim. Dr. Sc. Jelena Macan, Institute for Medical Research and Occupational Health, Zagreb, Republic of Croatia
  • Assoc. Prof. Dr. Nada Marić, University of Banja Luka – Faculty of Medicine
  • Prof. Dr. Sanja Brekalo-Lazarević, University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Medicine
  • amara Radošević Kutičić, Specialist in Occupational and Sports Medicine

The lectures covered current legal regulations, risk assessment, workplace injury records, psychosocial risks, night work, static-dynamic workload, and prevention of work incapacity.

The second day of the symposium was dedicated to five parallel workshops, designed to offer a wide range of topics – from workplace risk assessment and psychosocial risks, to exposure to chemical hazards and prevention of work incapacity. The workshops were led by top experts from Bosnia and Herzegovina and the region, aiming to provide each participant with practical knowledge and tools for application in their work and community.

The symposium concluded with discussions, final remarks, and the awarding of certificates to all participants.
