Lecture Titled: “You’re Studying Medicine in Sarajevo – So Did I!”

The University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Medicine is pleased to announce the guest lecture by Professor Dr. Miralem Pašić, which will be held on Friday, May 16, 2025, under the title: “You Study Medicine in Sarajevo – So Did I!” The lecture will take place in the Main Amphitheater of the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo (Bolnička 25), starting at 12:00 PM.

Professor Miralem Pašić is one of the world’s most prominent cardiothoracic surgeons, whose expertise and contributions to medical science have been recognized internationally.

He graduated from the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sarajevo, and since 2000 has held the title of Associate Professor (apl. Prof.) at Humboldt University in Berlin.

He began his career in Tuzla and later worked in Belgrade, Ljubljana, Zagreb, Ulm, Zurich, and Bern. Since 1995, he has been based in Berlin, where from 2001 to 2014 he served as Deputy Head of the Department of Cardiothoracic and Vascular Surgery at the Deutsches Herzzentrum Berlin, one of the world’s leading heart clinics. He is currently a senior advisor at the same institution and a professor at Humboldt University in Berlin.

Professor Pašić is the author of more than 430 scientific papers, cited over 8,000 times, with an h-index of 41. His significant contributions to the development of minimally invasive procedures, such as transcatheter aortic valve implantation (TAVI), have greatly advanced modern cardiac surgery.

He is actively involved in numerous professional associations, including the European Association for Cardio-Thoracic Surgery, the European Association for Thoracic Diseases, and the European Society for Vascular Surgery. From 1994 to 1995, he served as Assistant Editor at the European Society for Cardiothoracic Diseases.

The University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Medicine proudly welcomes Professor Pašić, whose visit will be a valuable opportunity for the exchange of knowledge and experience, and a further step forward in the advancement of medical practice in Bosnia and Herzegovina.
