The Faculty offers two integrated undergraduate medical programs:
- Integrated Medical Study Program in the National Language
- International Medical Degree Program in English
Both study programs are aligned with the Directive on Regulated Professions and the 2015 Council of Europe Directive. They span six years and carry a total of 360 ECTS credits, ensuring internationally recognized and standardized education. These programs prepare students for professional practice in medicine both nationally and internationally.
The Faculty of Medicine also offers postgraduate education:
- A three-year doctoral study program, leading to the academic title of Doctor of Medical Sciences
- Specialist training in various medical disciplines
Through these programs, students further specialize in specific areas of medicine and enhance their research and professional competencies, contributing to the advancement of medical knowledge.
The Faculty promotes excellence in biomedical research by consolidating existing and establishing modern research capacities within the Faculty of Medicine. Strategic partnerships with teaching bases, institutions, and universities at both local and international levels enable a broad spectrum of scientific research activities and the translation of research findings into clinical practice, with the aim of improving public health.
Scientific research is conducted through activities within the doctoral study program, participation of faculty members and associates in research projects funded by the Ministry of Science, Higher Education and Youth of Sarajevo Canton, the Federal Ministry of Education and Science, as well as involvement in research and networking projects supported by the European Union (Horizon Europe, COST).
The Faculty places particular emphasis on the early involvement of medical students in scientific research during undergraduate studies through mentorship programs, in which students participate in the development and presentation of scientific publications.
As part of its healthcare activities, the Faculty provides services to individuals and institutions in the following areas:
- Pathological, histopathological, and immunohistochemical diagnostics
- Diagnostics in neonatal and human genetics
- Forensic medicine and forensic toxicology
- Pharmacological-toxicological analyses
Continuing Medical Education (CME) is a process that encompasses all forms of postgraduate education organized by the Faculty of Medicine, University of Sarajevo, outside of regular undergraduate, postgraduate, specialist, and doctoral studies. Its purpose is to enhance and supplement knowledge, skills, and competencies in accordance with contemporary medical advancements. These programs are intended for medical doctors as well as other professionals engaged in healthcare or related fields, enabling their professional development and ensuring that healthcare workers remain up to date with the latest trends and technologies in medicine.
