FIRST CALL FOR APPLICATIONS FOR ENROLMENT INTO THE FIRST YEAR OF THE INTERNATIONAL MEDICAL DEGREE PROGRAM AT THE UNIVERSITY OF SARAJEVO – FACULTY OF MEDICINE  

In accordance with the University of Sarajevo Call for Competitions (Competitions for the enrollment in the first study year at the University of Sarajevo in the 2026/2027 academic year) announced on 08 June 2026, University of Sarajevo – Faculty of Medicine admits 30 students into the first year of the International Medical Degree Program in the academic year 2026/2027.

Application period for the enrolment into the first year will be opened from 08 June to 26 June 2026.

Closing date for applications is 26 June 2026, at 16:00 CET.

TECHNICAL ISSUES REGARDING REGISTRATION ON THE ONLINE eUNSA PLATFORM:

All information and detailed instructions regarding the registration process, as well as the methods and deadlines for uploading documents for the online application, will be available on the website Upisi UNSA

Registration support for online application will be provided exclusively through the website https://upisi.unsa.ba/#/landing/podrska, or directly through the system following a successful registration.

Incomplete and late applications (submitted after the closing date) will not be considered.

The Admission Commission will conduct structured interviews with candidates on Tuesday, 30 Jun 2026. Interviews will be organized online or in person. Student Affairs Office will contact candidates and inform about the exact time of the interview. Interviews will start at 11,00 CET.  Applications of Candidates who do not attend the interview will be rejected.

In accordance with the Faculty Council Decision, structured interviews will cover four areas for evaluation of candidates: English Language level, Communication Skills, Motivation and General Impression. Each area will be scored on a 10 point scale. The interview is eliminatory in each of its parts. A candidate passes the interview if they achieve the minimum number of points on each grading scale, i.e., a minimum grade of 6 (six) on each individual grading scale. If a candidate receives a grade lower than 6 in any area, they shall be deemed to have failed the interview.

Minimum points for each area of the interview: 6 points

Maximum overall points: 40

Application procedure:

All prospective candidates are obliged to submit (scan and upload) following documents:

  1. Original transcript (of each secondary/high school year) and secondary/high school diploma and (international) state graduation exam diploma.
  2. For applicants who finished secondary/high school education in Bosnia and Herzegovina:
    1. Original transcript and secondary/high school diploma/(international) state graduation exam diploma.
  3. For applicants who completed high school under ministry-approved international programs (e.g. IB program), and whose final external exam results and/or state graduation diploma will be released in August or September:
    1. Forecast grades. These candidates will be scored based on the forecast grades provided by their subject teachers, with the requirement that they submit their official certificates and/or diplomas prior to the beginning of the study year.
  • For applicants who obtained secondary/high school education abroad:
    • Original transcript and secondary/high school diploma/(international) state graduation exam diploma and a court translation of documents.
    • Certificate of equivalence (nostrification) issued by the Cantonal Ministry of Education and Science or a letter of confirmation issued by the Cantonal Ministry of Education confirming that they have applied for equivalence (nostrification) procedure, which is being in progress or a certified statement (notary, municipal, or embassy certification) that the procedure will be initiated prior to enrollment in the study program.

Important note: Candidates who completed secondary/high school outside of Bosnia and Herzegovina have the right to participate in the Call for Applications prior to the academic recognition (nostrification) or equivalence of their foreign high school ertificate/educational document. Candidates may conditionally enroll in the first year of study before the recognition or equivalence of the foreign certificate/educational document is completed. They are obliged to submit a confirmation that the recognition or equivalence procedure has been initiated with the competent Ministry of Education of the Sarajevo Canton on the prescribed form (“Official Gazette of Sarajevo Canton”, No. 10/25), or alongside a notarized statement confirming that the procedure will be initiated prior to enrollment in the study program.

  1. Birth certificate (and a court translation for foreign applicants)
  1. Citizenship certificate/Passport copy
  2. Citizenship certificate (original certificate for nationals of Bosnia and Herzegovina) or
  3. Passport copy or other legal document to verify citizenship (for foreign applicants)
  1. Proof of English language knowledge (Proof of an internationally recognised English language proficiency test (e.g. TOEFL, IELTS, Cambridge English Qualifications/CEA) or certificates issued by official language school. Certificates of English language proficiency issued by a secondary/high school are also accepted. Candidates, who passed (international) state graduation exam, with English language grades A*, A, B and C are not obliged to take an additional language proficiency test.

Important note:

In the FIELD 70 (see the Instructions) following text must be entered:

Note: Every candidate who applies for admission through the website is required to upload the payment slip (proof of payment of the application fee) through the system; otherwise, their application will not be considered.

Ranking of candidates will be based on criteria defined by the UNSA Decision for academic year 2026/2027, as follows:  

  1. Secondary/high school achievement (overall average over the all four years of the secondary/high school education)
  2. Achievements in following subjects (subjects relevant for the study programme): Biology, Physics, Chemistry and English language
  3. Achievements in secondary/high school competitions (awards, prizes, etc.)  in following subjects: Biology, Physics, Chemistry and English language (For candidates who finished secondary/high school education abroad, the Admission Commission will  express scores as points based on which they are ranked in the home country, in the school they have completed).
  4. Candidates with overall average grade 5.00, or equivalent award for candidates who finished secondary/high school education abroad and exemplary record of conduct,
  5. State graduation exam results for international programs (Equivalence of the IB program grades will be in accordance with the Decision of the Ministry of Education, Science and Youth of Sarajevo Canton),
  6. Other ranking criteria as defined by the UNSA Decision,
  7. Interview with candidates.

The preliminary and final rank list will be released in online mode. The candidates will have to use their oID numbers (a code received after registration to eUNSA) in order to check the rank list.

Preliminary rank list of enrolled candidates will be announced latest by Monday, 06 July 2026 on the eUNSA and the Faculty web site/ Faculty Announcement Board.

Candidates who wish to file a complaint regarding the rank list can do so by Wednesday, 08 July 2026 (until 15.30 CET).

All complaints should be submitted to the Faculty Protocol Office. Appeal Commission will commence reviewing the rank list on Thursday, 09 July 2026 at 9,00 CET, when all candidates who appealed, should be present in person.

Final rank list of admitted candidates will be announced on Friday, 10 July 2026 on the eUNSA and the Faculty web site/ Faculty Announcement Board. oID numbers (a code received after registration to eUNSA) will be used instead of names and personal data in the Final rank list.

All candidates who have deemed the right of admission are obliged to submit the original documents for the enrolment. Otherwise, the application would be considered as withdrawn.

Second Call for Applications will be announced if the sufficient number of candidates do not satisfy entrance criteria, in the period from 24 August to 04 September 2026.
