The University of Sarajevo - Faculty of Medicine is one of the oldest high education institutions in Bosnia and Herzegovina.  Since it’s establishment in 1946, the Faculty of Medicine has educated over 10000 students (Medical Doctors, Masters of Medical Sciences, and Doctors of Medical Sciencies). The Faculty employs over 300 professors and associates, offering graduate and doctoral program to more than 1000 students. The Faculty is equipped with 22 modern classrooms, six amphitheaters, 25 laboratories, 23 classrooms for practical work (workshops). The clinical rotation is organized in the Faculty’s teaching base – the Clinical Center of the University of Sarajevo.

Moreover, the city of Sarajevo is one of the most multicultural cities in Europe - it is a city where West meets East. The great historical heritage and coexistence of four religions offer a unique experience to young adults. Besides the facts that city of Sarajevo makes a memorable experience, the living expenses and tuition are very reasonable.

What do we offer?

The Faculty of Medicine University of Sarajevo offers modern educational program in English Language – International Medical Degree Program – Medical Studies in English Language.  

Medical Studies in English Language prepares students to be high quality medical doctors in accordance to the needs of society and its patients, introduces students to modern technology and in turn readies them for a lifetime education by integrating pre/clinical sciences with clinical disciplines. The program completely conforms to EU regulation of regulated professions. In academic 2015/16 year, Faculty of Medicine UNSA welcomed the first generation of students at the Medical Studies in English program.  

International Medical Degree Program – Medical Studies in English Language is a full-time study program that lasts for six years and fully compliant with Provisions of Directive 2005/36/EC and 2013/55EC of the European Parliament and the European Council on recognition of professional qualifications.  

Upon completion students receive 360 ECTS, with the total 5600 contact hours. Professional title/degree awarded upon completion of the studies is Medical Doctor (MD).

Our students

Our students are coming from all over the world. At present our Faculty hosts students from 17 countries -. United States of America, Canada the State of Israel, the State of Palestine, the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the South African Republic, the Republic of India, the Federative Republic of Brazil, the Republic of Turkey, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the United Kingdom, Federal Republic of Germany, the Republic of Austria, the Kingdom of Norway, the Kingdom of Sweden, the Republic of Croatia, the Republic of Serbia, Bosnia and Herzegovina.

Who can apply?

All candidates who finished four-year high/secondary school education are welcomed to apply.
Foreign nationals, who have completed an adequate high school education, are entitled to take part in this open competition, under the same conditions as the citizens of Bosnia and Herzegovina.

When to apply?

Each academic year, in mid-June the University of Sarajevo announces the Call for Application.

What will we evaluate?

Entrance interview is envisaged for the International Medical Degree Program. Ranking of candidates will be based on criteria as defined by the Law on Higher Education, the Statute of the University and the Decision of the University of Sarajevo. In reference to the admission requirements we will evaluate secondary school grades of all four years as well as grades in Biology, Chemistry, Physics and English Language Courses. The grading system is explained in the Call for Applications.

All applicants whose first language is not English must have a standard level of English language knowledge (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.) that will enable them to benefit fully from their course of study. Native speakers Candidates or the one with English secondary school or College Diploma are not obliged to take a test of internationally recognized English language proficiency test (TOEFL, IELTS, etc.).

How to appeal?

In case that an applicant is not satisfied with the admission results, s/he can file a complaint to the Faculty Appeal Commission. Instructions how to appeal are given in the Call for Applications.
